What this site collects.
Your contact form answers stay in your browser until you choose to share them. Optional analytics helps me understand how people use the site and where the form could be improved.
Last updated October 4, 2026
The short version
- Analytics is optional. Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) pixel load only if you choose “Allow analytics.” You can decline and still use the whole site.
- The contact form runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent anywhere until you choose to send them.
- If you email or book a call, I get what you sent me, and I use it to reply and to quote your work. Nothing else.
- If I can't reach you, I try again, and then delete your details after a month.
- I don't sell or rent your information. The service providers described below handle information needed for their services. There's no mailing list.
Who this is
This site belongs to Dunning Financial, a bookkeeping and advisory practice run by Mason Dunning, working remotely with small businesses across Canada. Questions about anything on this page go to mason@dunningfinancial.ca.
The contact form
The six-step contact form keeps your answers in your browser while you fill it in. It does not submit your answers to a server or save them in a database. You can choose “Email me instead” at any step, or finish the form for a recommendation and a booking link. Your answers are shared only when you open the booking link or send the prepared email.
You choose what happens:
- Book a call. Your name, email and the details you entered are passed to Calendly to fill in the booking form. See "Services I rely on" below.
- Email me instead. Your own mail app opens with the message already written. You can read every word before you send it, edit it, or close it and send nothing. Nothing reaches me unless you hit send.
The website does not save your answers between visits. If you allow analytics, it records progress through the form separately, without including anything you type or select.
What I do with what you send
When you email or book a call, I receive whatever you chose to send: usually your name, email address, company name, an optional website or Facebook page link, an optional phone number, the help you need with your numbers, how far behind the books are, and anything you added in your own words.
I use it to reply to you, to prepare for the call, and to quote the work. I do not sell, rent or trade it, I don't add you to any mailing list, and I don't share it with anyone else except the services listed below, which are needed to run the practice.
How long I keep it
If you book a call and I can't reach you, I'll hang onto your details and try you again. That's what you gave them to me for.
If a month goes by with no answer, I delete them. Not archived, not parked on a list to work through later, and no "just checking in" six months down the road. If you haven't heard from me inside a month, there's nothing left on my end.
Two things sit outside that month. If you reply and we're still talking, I keep your details while the conversation is live. And if we start working together, your information becomes part of the engagement and is governed by the engagement letter you sign rather than by this page.
Want it gone sooner? Email me and I'll delete it, no questions and no need to explain.
Services I rely on
These service providers help run the website and handle enquiries. Each has its own privacy policy.
Calendly
Booking a call sends you to Calendly, which handles the scheduling. When you open the booking link, the details from the form are passed along to fill in their booking page, even if you do not finish booking. Calendly is a United States company, which means that information is handled outside Canada.
Google Fonts
The typefaces on this site are served by Google Fonts. That means your browser makes a request to Google to fetch them, and Google can see your IP address when it does. This happens on every page, whether or not you contact me. No cookies are set by it.
Email and hosting
Email you send me sits in my email provider's system, and the company hosting this website may keep standard server logs of page requests, as essentially all web hosts do. These are ordinary operational records, not something I analyse or use to build a picture of you.
Optional website analytics
If you choose “Allow analytics,” I use Google Analytics to understand whether people reach the contact page, start the form, reach each step, see a recommendation, and choose the booking or email options. I also count clicks leading to the contact page and steps where someone chooses to email before finishing the form or where validation asks them to correct or complete a field. This helps me spot confusing steps and improve the website.
The analytics events contain page names, actions and step numbers. They do not include your name, email, company, website, phone number, selected answers or message. Page addresses sent by this site's analytics code omit query strings and fragments, and referring page addresses are not included. I do not use session recordings.
Google Analytics also processes technical information such as browser and device details, language, approximate location and cookie identifiers that distinguish visits. Google receives your IP address as part of the connection. Analytics information is handled by Google and may be processed outside Canada. See Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from partner sites.
The Google Analytics account is linked to Google Ads for conversion measurement. After you allow analytics, the Google tag can also send measurements to Google's advertising service, such as the page visited, an event name and technical information. Form answers are not included. Advertising personalization in Google remains disabled. Separately, the Meta pixel described below does use advertising cookies, but only after you allow analytics.
The Meta (Facebook) pixel loads only if you allow analytics. I use it to measure my Facebook and Instagram ads and to show follow-up ads to people who visited pages on this site — for example, someone who viewed the contact page may later see a Dunning Financial ad. Meta receives your IP address, browser and device information and cookie identifiers when the pixel loads, and may process them outside Canada. See Meta's privacy policy. Declining analytics means the pixel never loads.
Clicks on booking and email options show that someone chose to continue. They do not tell me that a booking was completed or an email was sent. Drop-off figures are estimates from measured visits; visitors who decline analytics or block it are not included.
Detailed analytics event data is set to a two-month retention period in Google Analytics. Aggregate reports can remain available for longer. This is separate from the enquiry retention practice described above.
Cookies and your choices
Google Analytics is off until you allow it. Declining does not send analytics data to Google. If you allow it, analytics cookies distinguish visits and are configured to expire after six months. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled. The Meta pixel is likewise off until you allow analytics; if you allow it, Meta may set advertising cookies as described above.
The website stores your allow or decline choice in your browser for up to six months. This preference does not contain your form answers. You can change it using “Analytics preferences” in the footer. Declining after previously allowing analytics stops further collection and removes this site's analytics cookies from your browser. It does not erase data already sent to Google.
If browser storage is unavailable, your choice applies only to the current page. Clearing browser storage or using a different browser may mean you are asked again.
Client records
This page is about the website. If you become a client, the bookkeeping engagement involves your financial records, which is a different and more serious matter, and it is covered by the engagement letter you sign rather than by this page. In short: your records are used to do your books and are not shared with anyone outside the work, except where I am legally required to.
Your rights
Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA, and the provincial equivalents where they apply) gives you the right to ask what personal information I hold about you, to ask for a copy, to have mistakes corrected, and to withdraw consent and have it deleted, subject to any records I am legally required to keep.
Ask, and I'll action it. There's no form and no process to go through, just an email.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. There's no version history, so if the specifics matter to you, save a copy.
